Thus, the corrective procedures for buttock augmentation and buttock repair include the surgical emplacement of a gluteal implant (buttock prosthesis); liposculpture (fat transfer and liposuction); and body contouring (surgery and liposculpture) to resolve the patient’s particular defect or deformity of the gluteal region. Moreover, in the praxis of sexual reassignment surgery, the prosthetic and liposculpture augmentation of the buttocks can be performed on transsexual and transgender women to enhance the anatomic curvature of the gluteal region in order to establish the markedly feminine buttocks and hips that project more (to the rear and to the side) than do masculine hips.

Filling the buttock with fat is a very interesting technique and is less demanding for the patient.

If you have no fat excess and want more beautiful buttocks, we recommend insertion of implants. One of the methods of buttock augmentation by implants represents highly demanding surgery for the patient.

We perform the above procedure in the general anesthesia making a small incision in the inter-gluteus crease. In addition, we create space for the prosthesis inside of the gluteus maximus muscle. Also, we select implants depending on the desired size and pelvis width.  After the surgery, the patient sleeps on his/her stomach for six weeks, cannot sit on the implants and has to wear a special fastener. Moreover, daily hygiene is extremely important for prevention of infection.

On the other hand, filling the buttock with fat is a very interesting technique and is less demanding for the patient. Thus, we perform it in peridural anesthesia; the patient gets 350-500 ml of fat inserted in each gluteus. The buttock is totally reshaped and lifted. The patient goes back to regular activities right after the surgery; normally sits and lies. The percentage of fat cells survival is 80-90%.

Functional purpose

The functional purpose of the buttocks musculature is to establish a stable gait (balanced walk) for the man or the woman who requires the surgical correction of either a defect or a deformity of the gluteal region; therefore, the restoration of anatomic functionality is the therapeutic consideration that determines which gluteoplasty procedure will effectively correct the damaged muscles of the buttocks. In addition to this, the applicable techniques for surgical and fat-transfer correction include the surgical emplacement of gluteal implants; autologous tissue-flaps; the excision (cutting and removal) of damaged tissues; lipoinjection augmentation; and liposuction reduction — to resolve the defect or deformity caused by a traumatic injury (blunt, penetrating, blast) to the buttocks muscles (gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus), and any deformation of the anatomic contour of the buttocks.

Likewise, the corrective techniques apply to resolving the sagging skin of the body, and the muscle and bone deformities presented by the formerly obese patient, after a massive weight loss (MWL) bariatric surgery procedure; and for resolving congenital defects and congenital deformities of the gluteal region.
